How the airport parking comparison works

This calculator prices three ways to get to your flight: park in an on-site airport lot, park at a private off-site lot, or skip parking and pay for a rideshare round trip. It multiplies each daily rate by the number of days, then shows the cheapest total and how much you save against the on-site lot.

The on-site rates come from each airport's published parking page, stored per airport with the terminal garage, economy and long-term daily rates. When an airport lists a daily maximum that is lower than the lot rate, the calculator uses the maximum. Some airports have no separate economy or long-term lot, and the tool then falls back to the closest lot with a published rate and says so. You can read the full lot table for any airport on its own page, such as Atlanta (ATL) or Los Angeles (LAX).

Off-site rates and rideshare fares vary too much by city and date to publish as fixed figures, so both are example defaults you can edit. The example off-site rate is $12 a day and the rideshare round trip is $70. Replace them with a real quote from an off-site operator and a fare estimate from your rideshare app. A worked case: Atlanta economy at $20 a day for 7 days is $140. The off-site example is $12 times 7, or $84. The rideshare example is a flat $70, so rideshare wins, saving $70 against the airport lot.

Rideshare has no per-day cost, so it gets cheaper relative to parking the longer you stay. The break-even line shows how many days of parking it takes to cost more than your rideshare estimate. Short trips in cheap-lot cities can flip the answer. Also add tolls, tips, reservation fees and any shuttle fare the lot charges. For the flight itself, try the flight time calculator to plan when to leave home.

Where these numbers come from

The formulas and default values in this calculator are based on:

  • Airport parking rate pages cited on each airport parking page in this site, including the Hartsfield-Jackson parking page (atl.com), as of 2026-09-30. Note: the off-site daily rate and rideshare round trip are editable example defaults, not quoted rates
  • taxes, card fees and valet are excluded

This is a planning estimate, not medical, legal or immigration advice. Fees, allowances, limits and entry rules change, so confirm the figures with your airline, cruise line, customs agency or the official government source before you book or travel, and follow their rules if they differ from this page.

Frequently asked questions

Why are the off-site and rideshare numbers editable?

Off-site lot prices and rideshare fares change with the city, season and demand, and no single published figure fits every airport. The defaults are examples so the calculator works on load. Enter a quote from the operator or your rideshare app for a real answer.

What if my airport has no economy or long-term lot?

Some airports list one garage schedule for every lot. When the lot you pick has no published rate, the calculator uses the closest lot that does and tells you in a note. Check the airport page for the current lot list.

Does the rideshare option include a pickup when I return?

Yes, the rideshare figure is meant as the full round trip: a ride to the airport and a ride home. Enter the total for both legs. Tips and surge pricing are not added unless you include them in your number.
