Where these numbers come from

San Jose has five lots, and the spread is wide. Economy Lot 1 costs $19 a day. The Terminal A garage is $25, Lots 4 and 5 are $31, and the Terminal B garage is $41. Airport wording stresses that the full daily rate is owed at the start of each 24-hour period, so one extra minute past a day triggers another full day.

That rule shapes planning. A 5-day trip costs 5 x $19 = $95 in Economy Lot 1 but 5 x $41 = $205 in the Terminal B garage. The 7-day figures are $133 and $287. Two weeks cost $266 and $574, so the premium garage costs $308 more. Even the Terminal A garage at $25 saves $16 a day against Terminal B, or $112 in a week.

Economy Lot 1 is at 2300 Airport Blvd, and buses run to both terminals every 7 to 10 minutes, 24 hours a day. It mixes covered garage spaces (8 ft 2 in clearance) with open surface parking that has no height limit. The lot is lit all night and patrolled, so a late return is workable. Extended stays past 30 days need a call to the parking office.

The short-stay rules apply to the day-one price only. At $4 per 30 minutes in Lot 2, the $25 daily rate is reached at 3 hours 7.5 minutes, so about 3.5 hours. In Lot 3 at $5 per 30 minutes, $41 needs 4.1 hours. Anyone who parks longer should ignore the half-hour rate and plan in whole days.

Silicon Valley parking is pricey compared with Sacramento, where a garage day is $21, and with Portland's $15 economy lot. See Sacramento, Oakland and Portland for comparison. The airport parking on-site vs off-site calculator lets you check whether a cheaper off-site lot or a ride makes sense for your trip.

One last budgeting tip: multiply before you choose. A traveler who assumes $25 a day for a 10-day trip and lands in Lot 5 pays 10 x $31 = $310, not $250. The Economy Lot 1 alternative costs 10 x $19 = $190, a saving of $120. The airport also runs a rewards program called SJC Park Perks, which offers points and offers on parking.
