Take the quizHow the port-by-port excursion budget works
Shore excursions are the most variable part of a cruise bill. One port may offer a free beach walk, while the next sells a helicopter ride for hundreds of dollars. This calculator lets you set a level for each port, then adds food, taxis and tips so the budget reflects a real day ashore.
For each port you choose one of three levels. Budget uses the low end of published excursion prices, typical uses the midpoint and splurge uses the high end. Ports with price ranges on file: Nassau, Freeport, Grand Cayman, Ocho Rios, Falmouth, Jamaica, St. Thomas, St. Maarten, Aruba, Curacao, Grand Turk, San Juan, Perfect Day at CocoCay, Castaway Cay, RelaxAway, Half Moon Cay, Cozumel, Costa Maya, Roatan, Belize, Cabo San Lucas, Puerto Vallarta, Mazatlan, Ensenada, Juneau, Ketchikan, Skagway, Sitka, Icy Strait Point, Victoria, BC, Honolulu, Maui (Kahului), Hilo, Kona, Kauai (Nawiliwili), Bermuda, Halifax, Bar Harbor, Portland, Maine. Choose a custom port to type your own price per person. Everything is multiplied by your guests. Mix and match levels across the week, since a sea day costs nothing and a glacier day does not. Port fees for food are low in some places and steep in others, so adjust the extras box to match.
Here is a worked example. Two guests visit Juneau, Ketchikan and Skagway at the typical level. The data on file gives midpoints of about $409, $277 and $302 per person for those ports, using the low and high ends of each range, plus $25 per person for food and transit. That totals $2,124 for the group, or $1,062 per person. Dropping Juneau to the budget level cuts $670 from the group total, since 409 minus 74 is 335 per person. Try it to see which port deserves the splurge. Your own quote always beats a listing price, so switch any port to custom when you have one.
Line-specific figures change, and so do operator prices, so confirm quotes before you book. Add the budget to the cruise cost calculator for the whole-trip total. Where these numbers come from
The formulas and default values in this calculator are based on:
- Cruise Alert: Freeport Grand Bahama port guide
- Cruise Hive: Grand Cayman cruise port
- Nassau Cruise Port: visitor information (prices are operator starting prices per adult, checked 2026-09-30). Note: custom prices and the $25 extras figure are editable examples
This is a planning estimate, not medical, legal or immigration advice. Fees, allowances, limits and entry rules change, so confirm the figures with your airline, cruise line, customs agency or the official government source before you book or travel, and follow their rules if they differ from this page.
Frequently asked questions
Where do the port prices come from?
They are starting prices per adult from published operator listings on file, with the check date on each port page. Enter your own quote in a custom port to override.
Are cruise line excursions priced the same?
Not necessarily. Line-sold tours often cost more than independent operators, so use your actual quote. See the cruise cost calculator for the full trip.
Do children pay less?
Many operators discount children, but not all. This budget uses one price per guest, so lower the guest count or the custom price to adjust.
