Where these numbers come from

MSP uses an hourly meter rather than half-hour blocks. You pay $5 for the first hour and $3 for each extra hour. The facility sets the cap: $30 a day in the seven Terminal 1 ramps and $23 a day in Terminal 2 Value parking. The airport states these rates exclude tax, so expect a somewhat higher total at the exit, and prebooking adds tax at checkout.

Work out a typical trip. Four hours in either Terminal 1 ramp is $5 + 3 x $3 = $14. The $30 cap is reached at nine hours ($5 + 8 x $3 = $29), and the next hour would push you past $30. In Value parking the $23 cap is reached at seven hours ($5 + 6 x $3 = $23). Beyond that, time within the same period is free.

For a vacation the arithmetic favors Value. A week in Terminal 1 is 7 x $30 = $210. A week in Value is 7 x $23 = $161, which saves $49. Over 14 days the totals are $420 and $322, a $98 saving. Both figures are before tax. Value parking is in the Orange and Purple ramps at Terminal 2, and the airport notes that Terminal 1 is reachable by complimentary light rail.

Convenience is the trade-off. The Green and Gold ramps connect to Terminal 1 by enclosed skyways on level 3, which is helpful in a Minnesota winter. The other Terminal 1 ramps connect at level T. If you fly an airline at Terminal 2, Value parking is a short trip from your counter, which makes it a clear bargain. The airport also runs a Quick Ride Ramp with a 24-hour free shuttle, but we did not verify its rates, so it is not priced here.

MSP encourages prebooking. The FAQ says online discounts exist only online, with no extra booking fee and a maximum booking of 45 days, and grace periods apply on entry and exit. Compare the prebook quote with any private lot through the airport parking on-site vs off-site calculator. For a different cap structure, see the Detroit Metro page, which has three separate long-term lots.
