Where these numbers come from

Dulles has three self-park tiers, all sharing a $7 hourly rate where one is listed, and each with its own 24-hour cap: $40 for the Terminal lot, $25 for Garages 1 and 2, and $20 for Economy. The airport notes that reserving ahead gives lower rates than these drive-up prices.

The caps bite at different moments. In the Terminal lot, six hours would be $42, so the $40 cap applies from about 5 hours 43 minutes. In the garages, four hours would be $28, so the $25 cap applies from about 3 hours 34 minutes. Economy has no hourly rate on the page we read, so we only use its daily maximum of $20.

Here is the math across trip lengths. Three days costs $120 in the Terminal lot, $75 in the garages and $60 in Economy. A week costs $280, $175 and $140. Two weeks costs $560, $350 and $280. The Terminal lot therefore costs $140 more than Economy over a week, and $280 more over two weeks, which is the price of the closest doors.

Economy runs a free shuttle around the clock from Curb 2F. There is no minimum stay, but vehicles parked longer than 45 days must be registered to avoid being removed. Dulles is large, with the Economy lot the biggest of the facilities, so the walk to a shuttle stop can be long when a lot is full.

To make the choice concrete, imagine a 10-day trip. Economy costs 10 x $20 = $200, the garages cost 10 x $25 = $250, and the Terminal lot costs 10 x $40 = $400. The $200 gap between the Terminal lot and Economy works out to $20 per night, so pick the tier that matches how much walking and waiting you can tolerate with luggage.

No off-site operator price was verified for Dulles, so none is shown. Use the airport parking on-site vs off-site calculator with the $20 and $25 figures. For the other Washington airport, which prices Parking 1 and 2 at $35, see Reagan National, or compare with BWI, where Long Term is $11.
