Where these numbers come from

Phoenix Sky Harbor uses one simple meter for nearly every public lot: $6 for the first hour, then $3 for each additional 30 minutes, until you hit that lot's daily maximum. The lot you choose only changes the cap. Terminal 3 and Terminal 4 garages cap at $33, both economy garages at $19, and the uncovered East Economy lot and 24th Street Station at $16. The airport does not publish a separate weekly rate in the table we checked, so a week is simply seven daily maximums.

The meter matters for short trips. A three-hour stay costs $6 plus four half-hour blocks at $3, which is $18. At 3.5 hours you reach $21 in an economy garage, but the $19 cap stops you there. The terminal garages hit their $33 cap at exactly 5.5 hours ($6 plus nine blocks of $3). After that, every extra hour in the same 24-hour period is free.

Here is the arithmetic for a typical vacation. A 7-day trip in the Terminal 4 garage is 7 x $33 = $231. The same week in an economy garage is 7 x $19 = $133, a saving of $98. An uncovered East Economy space brings it to 7 x $16 = $112. For 14 days the figures double to $462, $266 and $224. These assume each day reaches the maximum, which is the normal case for any overnight stay. Confirm how the airport defines a parking day when you pay, since we did not find that stated in the rate table.

Hourly rates rose from $4 to $6 for the first hour on October 1, 2024, and daily maximums went up by $1 to $4 at the same time. The airport said demand since 2022 was the reason, and economy lots often fill during peak periods. If you travel in a holiday week, use the airport's reservation option rather than hoping for a drive-up space. The FAQ page says bookings run from two hours to six months ahead, and the gate will not admit you more than two hours before your booked time.

Two details change the real cost. The West Economy Park and Walk lot is seasonal and caps at only $10, so it is the cheapest option when it is open. The East Economy lot is served by a circulating shuttle to the PHX Sky Train station, which adds transfer time. For a short business trip the terminal garage may be worth the premium; for anything over three days, the economy garages usually win. To compare these with a private lot near the airport, run the numbers in the airport parking on-site vs off-site calculator. Travelers flying through Seattle can compare structures on the Sea-Tac parking page, where the weekly cap works very differently.
