Where these numbers come from

Ketchikan is a compact waterfront town, and its visitor information center stands at the cruise berths. Sights such as Creek Street, Totem Bight, Saxman Totem Park and the Totem Heritage Center are the usual short-visit stops. Some are a short walk away; others need a bus, taxi or tour, which is where the price list below matters.

Local transport is cheap. A free shuttle runs a downtown loop from May through September. The municipal bus costs $2 for an adult each way and runs hourly all week. Taxis use a $3.70 starting charge plus $3.50 a mile. A 4-mile ride is therefore about $3.70 + (4 x $3.50) = $17.70 one way before any tip.

Excursions are where costs separate. A wildlife sanctuary and totem park tour starts at $114. Saxman Native Village with a lumberjack show starts at $139. Zipline and UTV trips sit between $209 and $254. The Misty Fjords flightseeing trip lists from $374 for about 1 hour and 45 minutes, and a fishing trip that cooks your catch reaches $439.

Worked example, two adults. Take the free shuttle into the loop and ride the $2 bus twice for $8 total if you go out and back for two. Book Saxman and the lumberjack show at $139 each for $278, then add the $88 pub crawl if you want an evening-style stop at $176 for two. That is $8 + $278 = $286, or $462 with the pub crawl. A Misty Fjords flight for two at $374 each is $748.

Seller prices are starting fares and can change with season, group size and fuel cost. Weather can also affect floatplane and boat departures, so check the operator's rules about cancellation and refunds before paying. If you drive yourself, note that public lots require a permit or time limit, and a one-day permit is $5 from City Hall. Compared with Juneau, Ketchikan's local transport is cheaper to use because the free loop shuttle removes the need for a bus on most short visits, so most of your budget goes to a single tour.
