Where these numbers come from

Belize has two very different cruise experiences under one name. Belize City is a tender port because the water off the coast is too shallow for ships to dock. Harvest Caye, about 70 miles to the south, has its own pier and lets passengers walk off onto land. Check which one your itinerary lists before you price anything.

At Belize City, tenders run about 20 minutes each way to the Fort Street Tourism Village. The village is compact, and a guide says it can be walked end to end in under 10 minutes. The Baron Bliss Lighthouse is a 5 minute walk. Beyond that you need a taxi. Licensed taxis have green plates, run without meters and quote about $10 for a downtown trip, so agree the price and the currency before you get in.

The Belize dollar is fixed at two to one against the US dollar, and US dollars are accepted throughout tourist areas. That makes price comparison easy: a BZ$20 item is US$10. Prices shown in US dollars. Check current exchange rates, because the peg is stable but card fees vary by issuer.

Excursions take most of the budget. A Belize City guide gives a general range of $60 to $160 per person. Cave tubing is listed at $80 to $150 or more for five to six hours, including a one-hour drive and a 45-minute jungle walk. At Harvest Caye, a manatee tour starts around $60, while the Nim Li Punit ruins and river rafting start at about $100. Children must be at least 8 and 48 inches tall for cave tubing.

Worked example, couple on a cave tubing day. Two tickets at $80 cost $160. A $10 taxi each way to the tender area adds $20, for a total near $180. If you pick the $150 version with lunch, the pair pays $300 and the taxi brings it to $320. Compare that with staying in the Tourism Village, which costs only what you choose to buy.

Worked example, Harvest Caye. A manatee tour at $60 for two adults is $120, and a ruins trip at $100 each is $200. Booking through the cruise line usually adds a commission, while independent operators can be cheaper but leave the timing to you. The last tender can leave 60 to 90 minutes before all-aboard. Compare with Costa Maya or Roatan, then use the cruise excursion budget calculator.
