Where these numbers come from

Cozumel is the most-searched port on many Caribbean itineraries, and the cost question usually comes down to two things: how far your pier is from town, and whether you pay a per-car taxi fare or a per-person tour. The island has three piers on its west side. All three dock ships, so nobody rides a tender. Which one you use depends on your cruise line.

Punta Langosta sits in the middle of town, so a short walk covers shopping and lunch for free. The International Pier and Puerta Maya are a 10 to 12 minute taxi ride south. That distance is why taxis matter here. Fares published for the local Taxi Union are charged per vehicle for up to four passengers: $8 to downtown, $12 to Chankanaab, $15 to Paradise Beach and $35 to Punta Sur. Starting from Punta Langosta adds about $1. Five riders cost roughly 45 percent more, and six to eight riders pay about double.

Treat the fare list as a guide rather than a guarantee. The Taxi Union figures were approved in 2016 and a May 2025 update says they still apply, yet other sites quote slightly different numbers. One lists downtown at $5 from Punta Langosta, another gives $12 to $15 for Chankanaab, and a beach club's own page estimates $16 to Paradise Beach. Agree on the price before you get in, and confirm a return ride.

Worked example, family of four at a beach club. The taxi to Paradise Beach is $15 each way per car, so $30 round trip for all four. Four all-inclusive passes at $81 come to $324. The day totals $354, or $88.50 per person, before tips and extras such as jet skis, which the pass does not cover. Split the car with another couple and the transport line drops, but the pass cost does not.

Worked example, two adults who want a tour. Snorkeling at $50 each is $100. Add an $8 taxi into town and back for $16 and you reach about $116 for the day. Jeep tours cost $69 to $114 per person, so the same two travelers spend $138 to $228. Boat charters ($450 listed) and deep-sea fishing ($325 listed) sit well above that band.

Terminal shops run about 20 to 40 percent above downtown prices, according to one local operator, so buy souvenirs in town if you can. The operator guide also says booking direct costs 40 to 60 percent less than ship excursions, though it gives no ship prices to check. Prices shown in US dollars. Check current exchange rates. To compare a cheaper beach-and-taxi day with other ports, see Costa Maya or Roatan, then enter your picks in the cruise excursion budget calculator.

Frequently asked questions

Do ships tender at Cozumel?

No. A 2026 operator breakdown says all three piers dock ships and no tendering happens, so passengers walk off directly.

How much is a Cozumel snorkel tour or beach day?

One operator lists snorkeling from $50 per person and jeep tours from $69. A Paradise Beach all-inclusive pass is listed at $81 for eight hours, with transport not included.
