Where these numbers come from

Ensenada is the most walkable of the Mexican Riviera call ports. Ships dock at the pier and passengers walk off with no tender. Two guides give slightly different walking times: 12 to 18 minutes and 15 to 20 minutes to Avenida Lopez Mateos, and a 4 to 6 minute walk to the Malecon waterfront. Taxis cannot enter the port grounds, so the stand is about a 4-minute walk from the gate.

Prices shown in US dollars. Check current exchange rates. Guides quote dollars here, but shops and stalls accept pesos, and one guide says paying in pesos saves 15 to 25 percent compared with dollar prices. At the reference rate of 18.1259 pesos per US dollar on September 30, 2026 (ECB-based data), a US$10 bill is about 181 pesos. Ask whether a price is in pesos or dollars, since both use the same symbol.

Taxi fares are negotiated. One guide gives about US$4 to US$8 for a ride downtown, while the other puts most car trips at US$8 to US$15, so budget the higher range. La Bufadora, a marine blowhole, is about 30 km away and free to visit, but the drive is 45 to 50 minutes each way. A taxi round trip with waiting time is reported at US$30 to US$50, and organized tours run US$45 to US$75.

Valle de Guadalupe wine trips cost more: taxi round trips of US$40 to US$60 and full-day tours of US$75 to US$149 or more per person. Adventure activities such as ziplines or ATVs start around US$50. Port days are short, often 7 to 8 hours, so one guide advises counting backward from all-aboard before committing to remote trips.

Worked example, four people. A La Bufadora taxi at US$50 round trip split four ways is $12.50 each, cheaper than a tour at $45 each = $180. Add a downtown taxi at the high $15 each way for the car = $30. The whole group spends about $80, or $20 each, versus $180 or more on tours. The catch is timing, since 45 to 50 minutes each way consumes a large share of a short call.
