Where these numbers come from

Port Tampa Bay runs its own cruise garage at 810 Channelside Drive, across the street from the central terminal. The port's parking page offers self-park, valet and oversized-vehicle spaces and lets you buy a pass online after choosing your cruise line. The page we opened did not print a daily price.

A local news guide quotes the port's communications director at $18 per day plus tax for self-park, with valet available for a $20 one-time fee. Treat $18 as a reported figure, not a posted one. Another guide says the port prices by sailing length rather than a daily rate, so your prepay screen is the final word.

For a worked example, take a seven-day stay at $18: 7 x $18 = $126 before tax. Add the $20 valet fee and the bill is $146 before tax. If your line's schedule means the garage bills eight calendar days, the self-park bill rises to $144. Tax will add to each total, and the port can change rates.

The airport leg is short. Tampa International is about 10 miles from the port, roughly a 20-minute drive, according to one guide. That makes a same-day fly-in less stressful than at many ports, though flight delays still cause missed ships. Flying in the day before removes that risk.

Weigh the garage against the alternatives before you commit. Hotel packages that bundle a night with parking were reported starting at $10 to $35 a night on top of the room, and an off-site operator was listed at $14.99 a day plus tax and a $4 fee with a shuttle. Those are guide figures, not port figures, and shuttle waits add time on sailing day. The garage is monitored around the clock, and the port page says it is gated and insured, which matters on a long trip.

Three terminals handle sailings. Terminal 2 is at 651 Channelside Drive, Terminal 3 at 815 Channelside Drive and Terminal 6 on McKay Street. The port page lists Carnival, Celebrity, Royal Caribbean, Norwegian and Margaritaville at Sea. Check your boarding documents for the terminal, since assignments change by ship and season.

Compare the garage with driving costs and airfare in the cruise parking calculator or the cruise cost calculator. For a flat fee compare Port Canaveral, and for tiered garages see Miami.
