Princess Plus and Premier Drink Packages: Prices and Break-Even

Where these numbers come from

Princess has two layers of drink deals. Stand-alone beverage packages cover drinks only. The Plus and Premier bundles add Wi-Fi, dining and prepaid crew tips for guests 1 and 2 on a reservation. This page covers both, because the drink rules are shared and the price jump is large.

The stand-alone prices on the line's beverage page are $64.99 per day for the Plus Beverage Package and $84.99 for Premier. A 20% service charge applies on all itineraries except Australia. Plus covers drinks priced up to $15, and Premier covers those up to $20. The bundles, at $65 and $100 a day if bought at least four days before sailing, cost $5 more onboard.

Here is break-even math using an assumed $11 cocktail. With the 20% charge it costs $13.20. Plus at $64.99 plus 20% is $77.99 a day, so you need 77.99 / 13.20 = 5.9, or 6 drinks. For Premier, use a $16 drink that costs $19.20 with the charge: $84.99 plus 20% is $101.99, so 101.99 / 19.20 = 5.3, or 6 drinks. For two adults over 7 nights on Plus, 2 x 7 x $77.99 = $1,091.86. The drink package calculator takes your prices.

The bundles change the picture. A $65 Plus day includes the bar service charge for qualifying drinks, a Wi-Fi device and four casual dining visits, and it prepays crew tips. Those crew tips are $18 per person per day, so the net cost of the drink and Wi-Fi portion is about $47 a day for a standard room. Premier at $100 nets out to about $82 for drinks, Wi-Fi, unlimited dining and a shore credit. That is why the bundles suit travelers who would buy those extras anyway.

Rules matter. Plus carries a daily limit of 15 alcoholic drinks, and Premier has no daily limit in its current version. Packages are valid only for guests of legal drinking age, which is 21 in North America, and guests under the legal age receive the Zero-Alcohol Package instead with no refund of the difference. The other guest in a stateroom may be required to join depending on how you book, so check at checkout. Packages are non-transferable and not redeemable for cash.

Who is it for? Couples who already plan to buy drinks, Wi-Fi and specialty meals will find the bundles efficient. Light drinkers can skip them. Read the Princess gratuity page and the Princess overview, then run the cruise vs all-inclusive calculator.
