Where these numbers come from

Frontier is an ultra-low-cost carrier, so the base fare covers only a free personal item. That item may measure 14 inches high, 18 wide and 8 deep including straps and wheels, and it must fit under the seat. A carry-on of 24 x 16 x 10 inches and up to 35 pounds costs extra, as does any checked bag. Bundles that include a carry-on, or a carry-on and two checked bags, are sold at booking.

Bag prices are not fixed. Frontier says the price depends on your travel date and when you buy. Independent summaries from July 2026 put carry-ons at roughly $30 to $60 when added online, $60 to $99 at the airport and $99 at the gate. Checked bags run about $44 to $74 online and $75 to $99 at the airport. Because these are ranges, the exact price comes from Frontier's bag price checker for your dates.

A worked example shows why timing matters. Take one traveler who adds a carry-on and a checked bag on a round trip, both online. At the low end that is $30 + $44 = $74 each way, or $148 round trip. At the high end it is $60 + $74 = $134 each way, or $268. If the same traveler waits until the airport and pays $99 for each bag, the cost is $198 each way, or $396 round trip.

Weight rules are tighter than at legacy airlines. A standard checked bag may weigh only 40 pounds, not 50, and 62 linear inches. From 41 to 50 pounds the extra charge is $75. From 51 to 100 pounds it is $100 to $129 depending on when you booked. Oversize bags from 63 to 110 inches add $75. All excess charges are non-refundable, so weigh your bag at home.

Frontier beats legacy carriers only when you can travel with a personal item. At a $30 carry-on price plus a $44 checked bag it is still competitive with Delta's $45 checked bag and free carry-on, but at airport prices it is far more expensive. Compare the final total, not the base fare, before choosing.

Use the total bag cost calculator with the price you see at checkout, or rank carriers in the cheapest airline for my bags calculator. Compare Allegiant and Southwest, or see the Frontier personal item size page. Always confirm on the bag price checker.
