Where these numbers come from

Hawaiian Airlines is now part of Alaska Air Group, and the two airlines received a single FAA operating certificate on October 29, 2025. They still sell tickets under separate brands, and Hawaiian flights keep the HA code. Bag pricing moved in step: in April 2026 both carriers raised checked bag fees, so the first bag between Hawaii and North America is $45 and the second is $55.

Carry-on rules are friendly. Reports for 2026 describe one carry-on of 22 x 14 x 9 inches and one personal item as free on standard Main Cabin fares. No weight limit is published for the carry-on, but you must lift it into the bin yourself. Hawaiian does not publish exact personal item dimensions that we could confirm, so the data for this page leaves that size blank. Use the bag-fit checker to test a bag against the usual under-seat size.

Here is a worked example. A family of four flies from Honolulu to the mainland round trip with one checked bag each. That is $45 x 4 people x 2 directions = $360. Add a second bag for two people: $55 x 2 x 2 = $220, for $580 total. Keep each bag under 50 pounds, because a 60-pound bag adds $100 each way, or $200 round trip.

Inter-island flights cost less. The first bag is $30, the second $40, and overweight fees are about $35 and $70. On the short Boeing 717 flights, overhead bins are small, so a full-size carry-on can end up gate-checked. Checked bags are capped at 50 pounds and 62 linear inches; fees for bags up to 100 pounds are listed above.

Fee waivers shift the math. Reports say the Hawaiian Airlines World Elite Mastercard covers checked bags, Atmos Rewards elite members get one to three free bags by tier, and active-duty military get extra. Routes to Asia and the South Pacific commonly include free checked bags in Main Cabin. Compare with Alaska using the bag cost calculator or read the Alaska Airlines page; for overweight specifics see the overweight and oversize fee calculator.

Because the two airlines are merging systems, policies may change again. A unified booking system was due to launch in spring 2026. Re-check the bag tool on your reservation before you fly, since route and fare type can change the figures.
