Where these numbers come from

Disney frames its gratuity as optional and pre-set. The suggested nightly amount is added for you, and the line's own answer says you can change it after boarding. The design choice that stands out is that it covers every guest on the reservation, children and infants included, which matters for the large families that sail Disney.

The rates are $16.00 per guest per night in standard staterooms and $27.25 in Concierge rooms and suites. A secondary report says these took effect January 23, 2025, up from $14.50 and $23.50. The line's page did not show a newer change on September 30, 2026. In standard rooms the money goes to the dining server, assistant server, head server and stateroom host, and Concierge adds the assistant host and lounge team.

A worked example: a family of four on a 7-night standard cruise pays 4 x 7 x $16 = $448. The same family in Concierge pays 4 x 7 x $27.25 = $763, a $315 difference. A couple without children on 4 nights in standard rooms pays 2 x 4 x $16 = $128. The gratuity calculator lets you test other party sizes and lengths.

The 18% layer covers bar tabs, beverages, wine, specialty dining, deck service and spa services charged to the stateroom account. A $45 cocktail round becomes $53.10. There is no unlimited drink package to fold the charge into, so it shows up on each tab. Soft drinks at meals and stations cost nothing, which keeps that bill smaller than on most lines.

Payment is flexible. You can settle gratuities ahead of time in My Reservations or let the amount land on your onboard account when you board. Guest Services can change the amount during the cruise. A refund for prepaid gratuities returns in full to the original card. Guests who prepaid at an older rate were not billed the difference after a rise.

Against rivals, $16 is the lowest standard rate among the big lines checked here, while the $27.25 suite rate is the highest. The real cost driver is party size, because nobody travels free. For fares, age limits and cancellation windows see the Disney overview, and for bar rules see the Disney drink page. The cruise cost calculator covers the whole trip.
