Where these numbers come from

Celebrity uses the same two-layer system as most mainstream lines. A flat amount per guest per day pays the crew pool, and a 20% charge rides on purchases. The flat amount went up by $1.50 on July 29, 2026, so any article written before that date quotes stale numbers.

The flat rates by room class are $19.50 for Inside, Oceanview and Veranda, $20.50 for Concierge and AquaClass, and $24.50 for The Retreat. The line's FAQ says the amounts post automatically to each guest's onboard account every day unless you paid them at booking. Its pooled tips go to dining, bar, culinary, stateroom and hotel staff.

A worked example: two adults in a Veranda room on a 7-night cruise pay 2 x 7 x $19.50 = $273. The same trip in AquaClass costs 2 x 7 x $20.50 = $287, which is $14 more. In The Retreat, it is 2 x 7 x $24.50 = $343. If the couple had prepaid before the rise at about $18, the secondary report says they keep that old rate. The gratuity calculator handles other party sizes.

The 20% layer matters most for drinkers. It covers spa and salon, beverages and beverage packages, specialty dining, room service and minibar items. A $50 massage therefore costs $60, and a $200 specialty dinner for two costs $240. On a drink package, the 20% is added at checkout to the package price, which the Celebrity drink package page works through.

You can change the daily amount at Guest Relations until the morning you leave the ship. That is a real lever: removing $19.50 for one guest saves $136.50 over a week. The FAQ does not list a separate child rate, and the secondary report found no age exceptions either, so budget for every person on the booking unless your paperwork says otherwise.

Compare with other lines: Disney charges $16 per night for standard rooms, and MSC $17 on Caribbean bookings. Celebrity's rate is higher, but its base fare often sits in a different price tier. See the Celebrity overview for fares and payment rules, and the cruise cost calculator for a full trip total.
