Where these numbers come from

San Francisco is one of the few large U.S. home ports where you cannot park at the terminal. The Port of San Francisco states that neither Pier 27 nor Pier 35 offers temporary or overnight parking. Its official answer for drivers is Metropolis, which runs dedicated cruise parking at two addresses on Francisco Street, numbers 55 and 80. The 80 Francisco Street lot sits next to the Pier 27 terminal.

We could not find a posted daily rate on the operator page we opened. It offers a 20% discount through a code you request by form, and it points you to its contact channels for pricing. Because we cannot cite a number, this page shows none. One cruise guide reports that the lots require a prepaid, dated booking and close at 7:00 pm, so check both points before you book.

Height limits can matter for tall vehicles. The same guide lists 6 feet 5 inches at 80 Francisco Street and 7 feet at 55 Francisco Street. Those are guide figures, not port figures, so confirm them with the operator if you drive a van or a truck with a roof rack.

For many travelers the better answer is to skip the car. BART runs from San Francisco airport to Embarcadero for $11.80 one way, in about 31 to 32 minutes, and from Oakland airport for $13.45 in about 36 to 37 minutes. A couple flying into SFO pays $23.60 for both fares each way, roughly $47.20 round trip, against about $57 for one taxi. After the train you still need a short streetcar ride or a walk to the pier.

Distance is about 16 miles from SFO to Pier 27, according to one parking site. We found no sourced drive time, so the data for this page leaves drive minutes blank rather than guess. Traffic on the peninsula swings widely, so allow extra time on embarkation morning and ask your line about recommended arrival windows.

To compare driving with flying in, put your own numbers into the cruise parking calculator or build the full trip in the cruise cost calculator. For a port with a simple flat fee, see Port Canaveral, and for a high nightly garage price see Manhattan.
