Where these numbers come from

Frontier does not publish a single price list for carry-on and checked bags. Its own page says prices depend on your travel dates and when you buy, and points you to a Bag Price Checker. The numbers in the third table are ranges reported by fee trackers, so treat them as estimates. The overweight, oversize and bundle figures come straight from Frontier.

What is clear is the ladder: the cheapest moment to add a bag is during booking, the next is online before the flight, and the most expensive is the airport counter or gate. Reported gaps of $50 or more per bag per direction are common. On a round trip with two bags that gap can reach $200, more than many tickets cost.

Frontier's standard checked bag limit is 40 lb, not 50 lb, which catches travelers used to other carriers. A 45 lb bag pays a $75 overweight charge each way. A 60 lb bag pays $129, a rate that rose from $100 on April 4, 2026. Bags of 100 lb or more are refused. Oversize bags of 63 to 110 inches cost $75.

Worked example: a traveler packs one checked bag at 48 lb and books at the low end of the reported range, $44. Each way costs $44 + $75 = $119. The round trip is $238. Moving eight pounds into a carry-on-sized bag (itself sold separately) might bring the checked bag under 40 lb and avoid $150. Weighing at home is worth it.

Bundles change the value. The Economy bundle pairs a carry-on with the personal item, Premium adds Board First, and Business includes two checked bags at 50 lb each. The bundle price is added to the fare, so compare it to buying the same carry-on separately at booking. A personal-item-only trip (18 x 14 x 8 inches, 35 lb) has no bag fees at all.

Plan the total using the bag cost calculator, then check the Frontier personal item size page for fitting a free bag. Compare the Frontier baggage rules with other budget options, and see Southwest's flat fees for a simpler schedule.
