Qatar Airways Baggage Rules: Carry-On and Checked Bags to the Americas

Where these numbers come from

Qatar Airways runs two baggage systems, and the Americas use the piece version. Flights to and from the United States, Canada and the rest of the Americas count bags rather than kilograms. Economy Lite includes one checked bag up to 23 kg. Classic, Convenience and Comfort include two bags of 23 kg each. Everywhere else the airline counts total weight, so do not copy advice written for Asia or Europe routes.

Every economy fare shares the same carry-on: one piece up to 7 kg, measuring 50 x 37 x 25 cm. That is smaller than a typical US roller of 22 x 14 x 9 inches, since 50 cm is under 20 inches. The airline also lets you bring a small purse or briefcase, a blanket or coat and an umbrella in addition, which is how most travelers carry a laptop bag. The Brazil exception allows 10 kg on routes to or from Brazil.

Checked bags on Americas routes may total 158 cm (62 inches) in length, width and height. That matches the usual US limit, so most suitcases pass. The fee pages agree that an oversize bag from 158 to 300 cm costs $75 and an overweight bag between 23 and 32 kg costs $75. A bag that is both heavy and large is treated as an additional piece at $280 in economy.

Worked example, round trip on Lite with two bags. The first bag is included. The second bag up to 23 kg is listed at $130 each way on the excess baggage page, so the round trip adds $260. If you pick Classic and the fare is less than $260 higher, Classic is cheaper. Another case is Classic with both bags included and one at 28 kg. The overweight fee is $75 each way, which is $150 round trip. The optional services page shows prepaid Americas bags at different amounts, $100 for some purchase paths and $200 online, so check which channel you use and confirm the price at booking.
