Where these numbers come from

Grand Canyon admission is a flat $35 for a private vehicle, $30 for a motorcycle and $20 per person for walkers and cyclists aged 16 and over. The vehicle fee covers the driver and up to 15 passengers, and a motorcycle ticket covers up to two bikes with four riders in total. Everything is valid for seven days and the park takes cards and mobile payments only. No reservation is needed to drive in.

Seven days is more than most visitors use. Many trips are a single night at the South Rim, then onward to Sedona, Zion or Monument Valley. In that pattern you pay $35 once and the ticket is easily enough. The $70 Grand Canyon annual pass makes sense only if you plan a repeat visit, such as a spring hike and an autumn rim drive. It breaks even on visit two and is valid for one year.

A road-trip loop changes the answer. Picture Grand Canyon and two other parks at $35 each in one week: three gate fees total $105, which is more than the $80 America the Beautiful annual pass. The pass also covers the driver and passengers in one vehicle at each park. If your route touches only two fee-charging parks, stay with individual tickets and save the $10 difference. Our park pass break-even calculator runs the exact combination.

Nonresident rules now add a real cost. From January 1, 2026, each non-US resident aged 16 or older pays a $100 surcharge in addition to the gate fee, unless carrying an annual or America the Beautiful pass. Two adults in a rental car pay $235. Three adults pay $335, so the $250 nonresident pass wins. Anyone under 16 is exempt from the surcharge and from the per-person fee.

The fee-free days for 2026 are Feb 16, May 25, Jun 14, Jul 3-5, Aug 25, Sep 17, Oct 27, Nov 11. They apply to US citizens and residents only, so nonresidents still pay both charges on those dates. As of 2026-09-30, October 27 and November 11 are the ones left this year. Free days usually bring heavier crowds and longer shuttle lines at the South Rim, so a weekday visit at the regular price may be a better trade. Compare other parks in the entrance fee finder.
